I’m New

OK, so there’s a good chance you’re visiting the website because you want to know more about what you might expect if you attended one of our weekend experiences. Actually, this is a common question, and honestly, we’re just a group of people that love God and love each other.  Our services have a casual, “come as you are” mentality.  So if you want to dress up, feel free – you’ll see some who do.  But if jeans are what you prefer, you’ll find most others are right there with you. It’s that simple.

Beyond that, let’s face it – it can be intimidating to walk into a church for the first time, especially when you don’t know what to expect. So hopefully to make that initial moment easier, here are some possible answers to questions you might have that others have asked:

WHEN ARE YOUR WEEKEND GATHERINGS/SERVICES?

Currently we are have 2 convenient gatherings Sundays mornings at 9am or 11am. The service is casual,  contemporary, and hopefully creative.

HOW DO I GET TO THE JOURNEY?

WHAT CAN I EXPECT MY FIRST VISIT?

From the time that you drive into our parking lot, you’ll notice we try to make our surroundings pleasant and inviting. When you walk into the door, you will be welcomed by a greeter who will hand you an information-filled weekend worship guide. Once you have found a seat, please grab a cup of coffee and relax. We hope you’ll enjoy the service and experience something great!

WHAT IS THE WEEKEND GATHERING LIKE?

Whether it’s your first time at The Journey or if you’ve been attending for years, you never know what to expect! The main worship gathering is designed to challenge both teens and adults in an interactive and engaging experience. Bottom line – from the moment you walk in the door until the moment you leave, the goal is to engage you and your family in a creative, compelling, and challenging way as we dive into God’s Word, the Bible.  Most services at The Journey last approcimately 75 minutes.

DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING FOR CHILDREN?

In one word – ABSOLUTELY!  While the adults and teens are in the main auditorium, there are two areas and programs specifically designed for your children:

  • JOURNEY NURSERY & PRESCHOOL – 1st floor – Located immediately inside the main entrance, the Journey’s Nursery & Preschool area is under the leadership of Sue Reed, and the area consists of several secure, engaging, and nurturing environments. The ages for this area encompass your babies and children from 3 months up through three years (non potty-trained).  If you need assistance, one of our greeters will guide you in the right direction, and direct you to a check-in station. We check in each child as standard procedure, for the safety and security and your peace of mind. Once that’s done, our trained teachers and workers will provide excellent care for your children while you spend time in our adult worship service.
  • KIDZ JOURNEY2nd floor – Located in a large fun and interactive space directly above the main auditorium, Kidz Journey is THE place to be for kids from pre-school (must be potty-trained) all the way up to 5th grade.  Led by Mary Waterhouse and her group of passionate and fun workers, your kids will have a FANTASTIC time while you are right below in the main auditorium!  While in Kidz Journey, they will play games, sing songs, make crafts, hear stories and learn lessons all centered around teaching them about God.  All kids are required to check-in for their safety and security, and parents are given a security tag to return when they come to pick up their kids. WARNING – THEY WON’T WANT TO LEAVE!!! :)

DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING FOR TEENS?

While we invite our teens into the worship gathering on Sundays, the Journey Youth Group (JYG) has two teen programs that meet every single week at The Journey’s Youth Center on 124 Milton Road (1 minute east of our main campus).   JYG  is split into junior high and senior high.

  • Led by Matthew Reed and his exciting team of counselors, JYG for the junior high meets on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00.
  • JYG’s senior high meets on Sunday evenings from 6:00-8:00 at the Journey Youth Center. This ministry is led by Pastor Mike Gallo.

Both youth leaders and their teams put together fun and challenging programs for our teens every single week.  For more information, contact Pastor Mike Gallo (mikeg null@null thejourneynh NULL.com) (senior high) or Matthew Reed (mattr null@null thejourneynh NULL.com) (junior high).

WHY DOES ROCHESTER NEED ANOTHER CHURCH?

Quite simply – because the job isn’t done yet! We have a real desire to bring the life-changing message of Jesus Christ into our community and to reach this postmodern culture for Christ. Within a ten mile radius of our church live close to 78,000 people (2006 stats), and the vast majority of these do not have a connection to church.  George Barna states that the average church in America has 89 people in Sunday attendance. As Jesus Himself said,  “The fields are ripe and ready for harvest.” We are committed to being part of the harvest here in this area.

Our mission statement sums it up like this:
At The Journey, WE ARE TRAVELLING
Toward God…
Together in Community…
To Reach the Culture
